My name is Br David Spillane and I was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa. I met a Legionary priest for the first time at the World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002 and again later at the University of Steubenville in 2003. After joining the Regnum Christi movement I came to Rome for a special month long course for young men. It was this experience of the Church here in the Eternal City that led me to consider giving a year as a volunteer to discern my call in 03-04. Clearly, God had been opening my heart continuously with all these experiences and gave me the grace to enter religious life in the Legion in the fall of 2004. These past ten years as a Legionary has brought me from Connecticut to New York to Ireland, Spain, Israel, Germany and now Italy. It has flown by but matured me very much, always being a beautiful adventure. I find myself less than three years from being ordained. I am full of gratitude for all the graces, big and small that our Lord has given me to allow me to make it this far. I am confident in the one in whom I have placed my trust… and I know that he will give me the strength to be a holy Priest.
It has been an especially amazing for this mid-west boy to have the chance to prepare these final years here in Rome. I am very excited to go on my first Church-a-Thon and it will be a privilege to pray for you and your intentions all along the way!
